Rothschild & Co Executive Chairman Chair of R&Co4Generations
This is R&Co4Generations' first Progress Report since our launch in 2021. I am proud to share what we have achieved so far and highlight the positive work of our not-for-profit partners worldwide.
The start of this decade has brought some of the most challenging times in recent history, clearly demonstrating the scale of the social and environmental challenges we face as a society. The conflict in Ukraine has caused the displacement of millions, the continued fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has widened existing inequalities and set back children’s education, and the ongoing climate crisis has shown the devastating consequences of inaction.
However, we have also seen how we can come together to protect our world and uphold the values that we stand for to create lasting and positive change. In line with my family’s tradition for philanthropy, Rothschild & Co has, for generations, been active in supporting disadvantaged communities and R&Co4Generations was created to continue and maximise our support. We restructured our philanthropic efforts to create a dedicated fund that brings together the combined resources of Rothschild & Co to make strong and sustained impact on communities locally and globally.
Since May 2021, we have supported 50 organisations working in 22 countries, including launching our two global flagship partnerships to tackle issues of global significance: habitat loss and access to information and education. One of R&Co4Generations’ key aims is to give our colleagues a chance to give back. Our regional partners allow them to volunteer and fundraise for organisations working to empower young people and equip them with the skills they will need in the 21st Century. We look forward to expanding these opportunities as we scale up our pro bono and venture philanthropy efforts.
R&Co4Generations’ activities are guided by our Management Committee, who steer the development of our strategy. I want to thank them, along with the passionate individuals who sit on our regional committees, for their commitment and contributions.
Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our people and not-for-profit partners from around the world for their efforts in driving social and environmental change and empowering the next generations. They have been integral to our progress and will continue to be.
