Looking forward
Afterword by Claire Kramme, Executive Director of R&Co4Generations
Claire Kramme Executive Director of R&Co4Generations
Our mission to empower the next generations is more important than ever.
The continued fallout of the pandemic, global conflict and climate disasters, and the rippling economic impacts pushing more people into poverty are devastatingly impacting the life chances of young people across the globe.
At Rothschild & Co, we want to use our influence and expertise to support the sustainability transition of the global economy, and the Group is committed to its ambition to help combat the effects of inequalities and climate change. Philanthropy is a key pillar of the Group’s strategy and an enabler to create a sustainable future for the next generations.
I am proud of the work accomplished since our launch by the R&Co4Generations team, the breadth of our action to collaborate with social purpose organisations worldwide and our efforts to increase the visibility of our philanthropic activities.
I am thankful to our colleagues for embracing R&Co4Generations and our new strategy, demonstrating a genuine commitment and playing a critical role in creating impact. The level of interest in our skills-based volunteering programmes has been particularly inspiring; from tutoring, mentoring and coaching, many of our employees are positive role models for young people, willing to invest time and effort to inspire the next generation.
Our first results are promising, and I am very enthusiastic and confident in our ability to scale up activity in Rothschild & Co geographies and join in this unifying initiative to create a significant impact.
“I am proud of the work accomplished in just one year by the R&Co4Generations team, the breadth of our action to collaborate with social purpose organisations worldwide and our efforts to increase the visibility of our philanthropic activities. ”
Looking ahead
We are embarking on a new phase of our strategy – Venture Philanthropy. With the help of the team's expertise in our Merchant Banking business, we are creating a portfolio of organisations (focused on education and climate) that deliver innovative solutions to the challenges we face.
Employee engagement continues to be a core element of our strategy as we create more bridges between R&Co4Generations, our business lines and support functions. Facilitating skills-based volunteering to support disadvantaged young people and help close the attainment gap is key to our mission. Similarly, we have plans to scale up and track our Pro bono Advisory services to help social purpose organisations increase their effectiveness, reach and revenues, and reduce costs. Our impartial advice has the power to make significant, long-term changes to charities that will deliver transformative social impact.
In subsequent years we shall further implement initiatives whose impact aligns with the ambitions of our selected UN Sustainable Development Goals and build on our culture of philanthropy across the business. Approaching projects with a philanthropic lens, creating synergies, developing new business opportunities and leveraging our unique assets will ensure we have a positive social and economic influence.
